The Distinctives of an Evangelical Church – God
Today we shall look at what we as conservative evangelical Christians believe about the one True God. The scriptures that are quoted are not an exhaustive list in any way but simply key verses from which our understanding of the nature of God is drawn:
- There is one and only one true and living God. (I Corinthians 8:6 & Exodus 20:2-3)
- God is an infinite and intelligent Spirit (John 4:24)
- God is the Maker and Supreme Ruler of Heaven and earth (Revelation 4:11 & I Corinthians 8:6)
- God is inexpressibly glorious in holiness. (Isaiah 6:3)
- God is worthy of all possible honour, confidence and love. (Revelation 4:11)
- There are three persons in the unity of the Godhead, those being the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (I John 5:7, Matthew 28:19-20)
- The three persons of the Godhead are equal in every divine perfection. (John 10:30 & II Corinthians 13:14)
- The three Persons of the Godhead execute distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. (I Corinthians 15:3-4, John 3:16 & John 3:3, 5 & 7)
